Gaming Etiquette

GM is God, literally!

They can make anything happen in their world. While they may not kill your character outright, because that would ruin the game, they can make your player slip and fall scaring a skunk who douses you with their fragrance. From that point on, all NPCs would avoid you at all costs, due to the smell. Your shoelaces may come untied or belt may come loose at the most inopportune moments, etc., etc..

This is a game and from time to time there needs to be clarifications and rule checking. Make your point, then, let it go. The GM may have things going on that you know nothing about that may be affecting the outcome. Part of your goal may be to figure out why things are going so screwy.

Sometimes the GM just isn't in the mood. It is their call. If you are really put out, have your character wander off mumbling and ranting never to return and quietly leave the table. Now, realize this will greatly affect the other characters/players more so than the GM, so tread lightly. You may not be able to join any other games any time soon.

With all of that in mind here is a list of general Do's and Don'ts:

  1. Be Respectful towards the GM
  2. Be Considerate of other Players
  3. The general theme is to focus on the game play and NOT rules lawyering, excessive peer pressure tactics, ego stroking, etc.
  4. The GM reserves the right to penalize any player who engages in excessive out of character negotiations, poor sportsmanship, or any other disruptive behavior.
  5. Out of character discussions should be limited. We are on a clock here. Check with your GM for their rule of thumb. Usually, if you say it, your character said it and whoever is within earshot heard it too. (This means it is bad to discuss attack strategies while standing in the same room with your enemy.)
  6. Spectators are not allowed to participate in the game in any way. If a spectator attempts to participate, it is the responsibility of the entire table to request that the spectator stop.
  7. We are packed in pretty tight. Be observant of the other tables around you.
  8. Some games have prerequisites and supplies that the players need to have before they come to the game, i.e., dice, sealed decks. Check with the Main Gaming Registration Table for more info about your game.
  9. Don't be late. Your slot may be gone. We will have alternates and a waiting list of folks hoping you oversleep or get stuck in the elevator.
  10. Minimal food and drink allowed in the gaming room. No open cups or full meals. Snack-like items only.
  11. Clean up after yourselves. We know who you are and where you are sleeping. Those crumbs you left on the floor can find their way to your bed.
  12. This is a public place. Keep the language clean and the tone low.
  13. But, most of all, Have Fun!
